Ectoin
Nature’s Shield for Skin and Cells

Ectoin is a powerful extremolyte discovered in 1985 in the bacterium Halorhodospira halochloris, which thrives in extreme environments like salt lakes and polar ice. This cyclic amino acid protects organisms by stabilizing proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, and cell membranes under stress from UV radiation, temperature extremes, and high salinity.
Ectoin forms a unique “Ectoin Hydro Complex,” a water-based shield that enhances hydration, reduces oxidative damage, and prevents cellular breakdown. In skincare, it boosts long-term moisture retention, strengthens the skin barrier, and reduces fine lines. Its anti-inflammatory and collagen-promoting properties also help repair and protect the skin from environmental aging and UV-induced damage.
Ectoin
Cosmetic benefits
- Ectoin is derived from extremophilic bacteria that live in extreme environments such as salt lakes or deserts, they produce Ectoine as a protective mechanism against stress factors such as high salt concentrations, extreme temperatures and UV radiation
- Ectoin is an osmoprotectant that protects cells from osmotic stress
- reduce TEWL (transdermal water loss) and moisturize for a long time
- reduces inflammation and relieves dry, sensitive skin
- improves skin barrier function
- protects cells from UV damage and repairs post-sun damage
- acts anti allergic and soothing
- promotes collagen synthesis and anti-aging
- brighten skin color
- COSMOS approved
