Ectoin - Natural protection for vital skin

An active ingredient from extreme habitats

Discovered in 1985 in the bacterium Halorhodospira halochloris, these microorganisms thrive in highly saline environments in harsh salt lakes and polar ice, i.e. under extreme external conditions. The key to their survival was ectoine, a molecule that stabilizes cells and protects them from environmental influences. Ectoine acts like a molecular protective shield: it stabilizes cell membranes, enzymes and proteins - without interfering with the cell process. Instead, it strengthens the self-regulation of the cell and promotes its natural resistance to external stress (UV, heat, environmental pollution, dryness). The active ingredient binds water stably to cell structures through so-called “ectoine hydrocomplexes” and thus promotes deep, long-lasting hydration. Ectoin reduces the formation of inflammatory mediators and thus protects against skin ageing caused by inflammation. During the day, Ectoin acts as a protective shield, perfectly attuned to the skin's natural rhythm, and leaves the skin feeling fresh.

Cell-intelligent active ingredient for healthy skin

Ectoin acts as an osmoprotectant and protects cells from osmotic stress. It reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL), soothes irritation and supports collagen synthesis for a youthful complexion. COSMOS-approved, vegan and flexible to use (0.1-7% concentration), Ectoin fits into day creams and serums.
