EGCG is the main catechin in green tea and has mainly a protective function for the skin. It reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS), up-regulates epidermal antioxidant enzymes, and reduces oxidative stress (reduces the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL 6 and IL 12).
Blackcurrants have high levels of anthocyanins and help restore the production of elastin, collagen I and III. They have UVB-protective and anti-inflammatory effects. Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G, anthocyanin), reduces UV-induced expression of the proinflammatory cytokine IL 8 (oxidative stress).
