Micropiper excelsum (Kawakawa tree of the indigenous Māori) is one of the most widely used medicinal plants, with soothing, detoxifying, and anti-inflammatory properties. The leaves contain a similar milieu of bioactive compounds as their relatives in the Piper family. With high content of diayangambin, elemicin, myristicin (bioactives known to have high anti-inflammatory activity), which are also rich in vitexin (glycoside) (vitexin and elemicin have antimicrobial activities).
Mānuka honey is known for its peroxide-free antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, rich in unique polyphenols. It stimulates both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory processes and accelerates skin healing, soothes and calms the inflamed area.
